With an unusual career path back into the world of music, mezzo-soprano and native Canadian Avanti Dey is quickly becoming an audience go-to in North Texas with an exceptional range of roles both comic and dramatic.

Avanti formally trained as a cognitive neuroscientist, but her lifelong passion for music has led her to appear in a variety of operatic roles in the North Texas region since relocating to Dallas in 2017. She has appeared in roles as diverse as Vitellia (La clemenza di Tito), Bradamante (Alcina), Dorabella (Così fan tutte) and Mother (Hänsel und Gretel). In addition to being an active singer with the North Texas chapter of Opera on Tap, Avanti has also appeared with Diversitá Opera Arts Company, Classical Fusion, and Make Music! in the Dallas metroplex.

Musical theatre credits include: Beggar Woman/Lucy Barker and Mrs. Lovett (Sweeney Todd), Lady Beaconsfield (Jekyll & Hyde), and Crystal (Little Shop of Horrors).

She has extensive choral experience, including with the St Louis Symphony Chorus and the Women’s Chorus of Dallas, and is a frequent soloist at Lakewood United Methodist Church.

Avanti is also a composer for multiple instruments, and released Anachronism, her debut album of original piano compositions, in 2005.

Avanti received her PhD in Psychology and Neuroscience from Washington University in St Louis in 2016.
